Recount: Science Roadshow!

Today for one block during school time Room 7 & 5 went to Tamaki College for the Science Roadshow. I went with a few people in my class in Malia’s Mum’s car. We were going so that we could experience Science at first hand. When I arrived we all had to line up outside of the auditorium. We were also with another school which was St Helier’s.

After 10 minutes of sitting and listening we were finally allowed to go and look at the different experiments. I wasn’t sure which one to go to first so I just followed Rosrine and Joshua. The experiments were stationed next to one another, with cards of information about the experiment and how it works. There were some experiments about random things like tennis balls and balloons. Then there was others about the weather and cars.

After 15 minutes we all sat back down to learn about Sound waves and volumes. We sat there for 10 minutes learning about different things like the way sound travels and the pitch. It was the most interesting thing that I had learnt today because it was something that I was unfamiliar with. They also did an experiment with fire that was based on sound. When we had finally recapped about everything that we learnt the Roadshow was finished.

Overall my favourite experiment from today was an experiment where you had to throw the ball to see how fast you can throw it. It was called Speedball. It was my favourite because it was interesting comparing one person's results with another. But I also really loved the last bit where we got to learn about the Sound. It was really informative and interesting.

My Book Response: The Tooth

Today we listened to a book called ‘The Tooth.’ It was about a little girl named Marisa that gave up her tooth to a homeless man. It was written by Avi Slodovnick and illustrated by Manon Gauthier.
I think that this was a very thoughtful, but sad text. I say that this is thoughtful because it begins with a simple trip to the dentist and ends with a girl giving everything that she has to a homeless man. Even though the tooth doesn’t bring any money. It’s the fact that this little girl actually sacrificed her tooth. Which she thought would bring money to a man that she doesn’t even know!
I also say that it is sad because in the book it also talks about how the people in the street didn’t even acknowledge the man. It just proves how some people in the world just don’t care about other people that are suffering.

Descriptive: Female Figure

I think that every Mother, Aunty and Grandmother’s in the entire world are brave, guiding, caring and loving.

My Aunty has dark brown shoulder-length hair. She wears square shaped glasses (like me) and has deep dark eyes. She has tan skin, rabbit shaped teeth and she has very faint freckles on her cheeks. She is also a little taller than me and is quite huge in size (but she doesn’t care).

My Aunty is a siren. She is never quiet and she loves to speak her mind. Sometimes she can be as loud as a lion! But when I say loud, I don’t mean boastful or she’s a show-off. I mean she is loud in a way that she’s out-going. I know this because whenever she has something to say she will say it. Whenever I am around my Aunty I feel really loved and protected. I feel really safe whenever I talk to her.

My Aunty is a non-smoker and she loves to bake. Her house is a bakery. She bakes anything that tastes sweet in her mouth and that’s something that I love about her. She has 3 sons. Diego, Sani and Dre, who she absolutely adores. She also has a loving husband, Andrew. My Aunty is a person who doesn’t care about other people's opinions. She is very self-directed and is very funny. She is not a strict person and loves to have fun. Lastly she loves candy (which is something that I inherited from her).

My Aunty is my female figure because she is basically my second Mother. She taught me how to walk and she has always told me that I can go far with family and love.

Recount: Holiday Writing!

During the last week of vacation in Samoa I went to a beautiful beach, in a village called Lalomanu. I went with my entire family. We were fortunate enough to fly out to Samoa all together.

Everyone had already packed everything out of their cars and now they were ready to jump into the cool, blue water. The beach was beautiful! The sand was soft like a pillow and had a beautiful light skin colour to it. The water was a beautiful shade of baby blue. It was also calm and was also fortunately not rockey under the water. But the best thing was, that the water wasn’t too cold or too warm. It was the right temperature for a beautiful hot day.

When I had finally sunk into the water I felt very relaxed, I felt like I could just float on top and fall asleep. But I decided to make the best of this opportunity. So I merrily swam and dived, pleasingly jumped, relaxingly floated and happily snorkeled through the water. I was as happy as a bee with lots of honey. I also played a lot with my younger cousins, nephews and nieces. We played tag and also tried to catch the little fish (which did not go well). I also got the chance to shoot some videos with my older cousins GoPro Camera underwater. But the best part wasn’t the sand or the water or even the GoPro Camera, it was the fact that I was with family.

Then without even realising it, we were already having showers and getting ready to leave. I reluctantly cleaned up and headed for the car. “Wow, time does fly when you're having fun!” My Dad exclaimed. After everything was packed and we sadly said our final goodbyes to the beach we headed back on our road trip.
